Vimeo is in constant development to improve the user experience and add new features. In August, they announced Vimeo Create to be now an official Pinterest partner to publish videos to Pinterest seamlessly without downloading them. Vimeo Create should help small businesses and creators to make engaging video ads and other social media content without having a broad knowledge of video editing. They provide easy-to-use templates made explicitly for Pinterest that can be customized by the users as they wish. When signing up for a Vimeo Pro or Business account, this feature is free for 30 days. Furthermore, Vimeo gives its users some advice to be successful in Pinterest to support them even more. For example, they recommend to not rely on sound on short videos since most people do not watch videos with sound on Pinterest.

Another big part of Vimeo is live streaming. Therefore, new features have been announced by Vimeo this year. As technology is developing fast, it may fail during a live stream. To prevent this, Vimeo added new features to Vimeo Enterprise, such as closed captioning on live streams, live Q&A moderation and backup streams. This should help creators to have more control over their streams. Closed captions should attract an audience that is non-native in the stream’s language to read the (translated) subtitles. This allows people to watch the stream without listening to the sound in noisy places or when there is no possibility to switch on the music. If the primary stream fails to work, the backup stream will take over to guarantee a smooth run. Moreover, Vimeo offers live Q&A moderation to review the questions and select the ones that suit the topic best. This way, duplicate questions or personal information can be hidden from the audience.

In June, Vimeo announced that HEVC is now supported. Before, streams at home needed a lot of bandwidth, and with that came reduced quality. This problem should be fixed with HEVC, where events can be streamed at the same bandwidth with twice the quality than with H.264. Users with Vimeo Premium or Enterprise can use these high-definition settings for their at-home events. However, there are some additional requirements to use this feature. First, compatible hardware is necessary, like Intel Quick Sync or NVIDIA NVNEC graphics cards and the Livestream Studio. With this new feature, a 1080p stream will only need 2–3Mbps instead of 4–5Mbps.

All these new features will improve live streaming, especially from home, and with the Pinterest feature, it will be easier to promote content on several platforms.
